What does Bison Meat Taste like?
Bison has a clean, slightly sweet, rich flavor. It is similar in taste to beef which is why it will work so well in so many of your favorite recipes. However, you will notice a deeper red color in the meat. Our responsibly ranch raised process and the freedom of the animals to graze and roam the ranch throughout their lifetime ensures that our meat is of excellent quality which you will notice in the taste and quality of our products.
What's the best way to cook Bison?
Bison meat is very lean so you'll want to take care when cooking. Your favorite cooking method for other steaks and burgers (grilling, stove-top, etc.) will work just as well with bison, however you will most likely want to lower the heat and adjust the cooking time.
We recommend not cooking bison steaks or bison burgers past medium doneness, leaving some pink in the center. If you cook your bison meat too quickly or too well-done, it will become tough and chewy. As long as you cook it to medium doneness (or less), you will be left with an amazingly tender, delicious steak or burger.
How will this meat arrive?
We package our bison steaks individually and they are vacuum sealed. The steaks are then placed in cartons of 4. The Bison Burger Patties are vacuum sealed in packages of 3. We then place 4 packages of Bison Burgers in a carton, for a total of 12 patties.
We then place the cartons of bison steaks and patties (and any other items you order) in a styrofoam cooler with dry ice to ensure that it stays frozen and cold during shipping. Even if your meat does not arrive still completely frozen (although most of the time it will), as long as it arrive cold to the touch, it is completely safe to re-freeze and cook.
